Nelson King

Br. Nelson King PGM [H], FPS, BF

The daughters of Nelson King have released a statement that Nelson King PGM [H], FPS, BF, passed this morning August 17, 2011.

I am sure many stories and articles will follow but for the moment I would just like to pay homage to the man and for you to do the same.

So if you would place in the comments section something you would like to say about Brother King. Perhaps you knew him or corresponded with him or have an interesting story of your interaction with him.

Let us honor him with what we remember was great about him and what he did for us and for Freemasonry.

  1. I have known Brother Nelson King for a number of years. He and one of the Kansas Past Grand Masters were good friends, and I met him through that friendship. We seemed to have a good rapport from the moment we met. I was honored in 2004 when he asked me to become a member of the Masonic Brotherhood of the Blue Forget-Me-Not. He is a man I respected very much. He will be missed by all who knew him well.

  2. May the light shine brightly on your soul and thank you for keeping the light in the souls of the people you touched. So mote it be!!!

  3. Brother Nelson was a great Masonic mentor to me! I met him years ago when I joined the Philalethes Society and he was its long time Editor! He would call me at home and compliment the work we were doing on the Phoenixmasonry website where I was also given the honor and privilege of publishing his many Masonic papers! We also support a link at our site for his Masonic Relief for Cuba project which we will continue to support in his memory in the years to come! We have lost a great friend and Brother! We will sorely miss you My Brother!!!

  4. Thank you for providing a forum to pay tribute to our departed Bro. Nelson King.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Bro King early in my Masonic journey during a historic visit to our Prince Hall Lodge with a large contingent of GRC brethren. It seemed everywhere he traveled he spread the Masonic cement of friendship and brotherly love as he worked tirelessly to promote the universality of our craft. He challenged the very power structures that held on to old grieves and past animosities to stay true to the tenants of our fraternity.

Over the years I followed his work and at the Philathes and commended his stance to recognition across the jurisdictions. Whether you always aggreed with his opinion or not mattered little as his points raised questions and started valuable discussion about the future of Masonry.

At the end of his journey we can all say “there goes Brother Nelson King, a Man and a Mason.”

    Fraternally submitted,
    Brother Matthew Green SW
