Order of the Eastern Star

The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. Worldwide, there are approximately 1 million members under the General Grand Chapter.

Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work. A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other.

While this is an Order composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to with faith. Atheists are not permitted to join. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can.

Purposes
The stated purposes of the organization are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal and Scientific; but there is much more to it than that. Dr. Rob Morris, the Poet Laureate of Masonry, founded the Order using beautiful and inspiring biblical examples of heroic conduct and moral values. These portray the noble principles, which should adorn the personal lives of Eastern Star members. Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through precept and example, build an Order, which is truly dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness.

Projects
Concrete evidence of the charitable nature of the organization as it affects others is the millions of dollars, which have been raised within the membership to support national, jurisdictional, and local charities. Many Grand Jurisdictions have homes for their senior members.

  1. Good day, I am making a wall quilt of the Eastern Star for my Mother-in-law.
    In November it is her 60th anniversary as one of your members for Manitoba.
    I am looking for copies of the symbols in the middle of the star. Where or how can I get them. I have the star completed and have been trying to redraw them. They do not come close. If there is a way I can get them I would appriciate it.

  18. My name is Adria, my mother Lisa Hedrick, is looking for answers on our family history and have found a lot of information on grand master Aiman C. Hedrick and his son, (her father) Gordon B. Hedrick, they both died at very young ages, which leaves their and our past a huge mystery. If anyone knows these names and can give me some history and insight on our place in life. I am Lisa Starr Hedrick….my grandfather Aiman Hedrick was the 48th grand master of the mosonic lodge in muncie Indiana 1952….he died a year later….my father Gordon brian Hedrick died in 1968…my grandmother CLAUDIA LEE MIER HEDRICK(harris)was an OES IN MUNCIE INDIANA…I am interested in any and all information pertaining to my “heritage”…and am possibly interested in joining…(of I am able)…

  36. Hello, A few years back, I inherited my Great Grandmother’s OES Ring from which she wore endlessly to the day of her passing. Knowing only that she was a member, as she never discussed anything associated with any of us, I am very intrigued & interested in finding any knowledge of her membership & history. Also, her husband, my Great Grandfather had worn a ring with the Mason symbols though we never located it upon his passing from which I am very interested in the history of his membership.   37. You can contact the Alabama OES and they can help you with a little bit of information. Being that you aren’t a member, there is only so much they can give you. However, there is some and you are probably eligible to join if you’d like. You are going to want to have her date of birth and some places she lived so that they can find her in their records.
